As you can probably tell, I enjoy traveling whenever I can, but there are also health benefits to traveling that some people may be unaware of. Taking time off work to visit a new vacation destination, your favorite vacation spot, or even a ‘staycation’ can provide many health benefits including boosting your immune system to help you live longer and healthier. Here are 3 reasons traveling is good for your health.
- Relieves stress – even if you like your job, you’re probably going to feel stressed and overwhelmed from time to time. Taking time off work for a vacation can put your mind at ease and enhance your job performance when you go back to work because you will feel refreshed. Vacationing for a consecutive 7 days has been known to reduce stress levels tremendously, but one study found that taking a shorter 4 day vacation has positive impacts on stress levels as well. This means that even taking a short-term vacation can decrease your stress level and enhance your health!
- Improves happiness – psychological science found that people who spend money on “doing” rather than “having” are more likely to be happy. It was found that waiting for an experience tends to be more pleasurable than waiting to receive a material good. This is good news for those who enjoy spending more money on experiences, such as vacations, rather than on a new purse or the latest iPad.
